Batman Dark Knight movie review (Imax, the hype and the plot)

Batman Dark Knight movie review.

Batman the Dark Knight movie review

Well what do we have here? I feel so strongly about this new movie that I had to write this Batman The Dark Knight movie review, it is worthy of a blog post.

I loved Batman Begins. It was a pleasant surprise to see a movie with a well-thought plot, believably high-tech toys and the lack of the Men in Black type humor (humor, said with strong sarcasm). Christian Bale played a great wealthy tycoon trying to find his true soul in the world and struggling with demons that that the audience could quickly grasp. It made sense watching Batman Begins.

Batman Dark Knight is not a film for a minor. I think that needs to be repeated on the likes of CNN, Fox News and other media outlets. My son of 13 went to see the film before me and frankly, I feel I have let him down; exposing him to early and unnecessary horror. The face, or lack of face of [level-basic]two-face (Harvey Dent played by Aaron Eckhart) was not only over-exposed horror, it was something that the producer Christopher Nolan felt he should focus on for long periods of time. Shocking to the average adult, this movie is abuse of a minor and should shock the conscience of the adult soul. Is this what our fine movie industry has stooped to for sales? Its obvious, the answer is a resounding yes.

When my little brother was electrocuted for hours, his face was horribly disfigured from the current. I insisted on seeing him before burial, despite objections from those around me. I still saw my little brother and rubbed his face one last time. His jaw looked like the depiction from wonderful Hollywood in this movie – a painful reminder of what damage can be done to the human body. Being an adult and former Marine, I can handle it and am reasonable when I say, I can separate the two when watching a movie with similarities. But what they did in this movie, without warning to the younger viewing public is very, very wrong. It makes me seriously try to imagine how Aaron Eckhart faces his family with this brutal lack of conscience other than to plop a big check on the table and say, sorry… Many, many innocent children are being exposed to something that NO children should ever have to see in their lifetime, ever. Children hoping to see Batman…

In addition, the thumping moral of the story is that good is bad, bad is good, good can be really bad, bad can sometimes be great and necessary and everything that is supposed to be good is probably mostly very bad – and should be assumed so. As an adult, I came away with one solution for all problems, hit someone, hard… I cannot imagine what our youth will grab and set as compasses for their lives from a movie like Batman, the Dark Knight.

Having ranted about the moral blemishes and lack of true film rating, I can move on to the plot. The movie is not worthy of tons of text, my time is simply too valuable for that. However, I will bullet the good vs. bad of the film.

The Good of Batman Dark Knight movie review

  • When Heath Ledger’s performance of the Joker was good, it was great. There were times in the film I actually saw the word Oscar, but with a caveat (see below).
  • Imax spectacular views of aerial shots of Hong Kong
  • Imax incredible jump from skyscraper was breath-taking
  • Great logo!

The Bad of Batman Dark Knight movie review

  • Truly unbelievable scenes pushed the envelope to B-rate status
  • The plot carried several open-ended items that left the movie-goer wondering, what??? Really?
  • The Joker was spectacular one minute and downright ridiculous the next, can anyone top Jack Nicholson’s joker?
  • The joker, despite being punched in the face, thrown into walls and glass and physically tortured by the good-guy Batman, lacked any swelling, blood or real damage whatsoever.
  • The media playing this to be a great motivation for the public in bad economic times…lol
  • Men in black type humor peppered throughout. A police officer sees a helicopter start to crash…that’s not good he says, the helicopter drops in his vehicles path and burst into flames, that’s really not good…argh.

The Ugly of Batman Dark Knight movie review

  • Horrific scenes of two-face’s burned face, muscles, tendons and all showing.
  • The overall morals of the story leave adults wondering about law, order, good and bad.
  • The crowds leaving the theater, obviously confused, let-down and wondering if one should speak up to another and actually say, what the hell was that?

Want to read the specifics about the illogical faults of the movie, visit I could not have outlined it better than random posts from some movie-goers.

Would I go see this movie again? Without hesitation, no. Would I recommend the movie, again no. Wait for the dvd, actually wait for the free viewing on regular tv/cable – perhaps the censors will wash some of the visual grossness of two-face (i doubt it). Many of you will go see it, we are generally sheep when it comes to following fads or doing what the crowd will do, I did.

I can close with one certainty, the producers of Batman – The Dark Knight, got one thing right – the “Dark” part.

MYSPACE – a fresh perspective **yAwN**

One part of two part focus on Myspace and Facebook!

Well I have tested both and have to say this, I canceled both accounts with very little reservations. Actually, I just lied. I had no reservations. Many family members had pending friend requests, were hitting me with Hillary or something entertaining. What happened to the days of sending a postcard, flowers or just stopping in for coffee or a beer? God, I am getting old…

Spending much of my day (and evenings) online, I doubt the social [level-basic]engineering “fun” of social networking sites will catch my fancy. Friendster, Friend finder, (lol) simply are just not my bag. However, I will try to give an honest opinion of both here. Take it for what its worth.

Is this a place for kids under 18, absolutely not! I am going to go way out on a limb and probably offend the likes of Tom (whom I admire) who created Myspace, but this site is decadent, immoral and bordering on abuse when it comes to our children. To pitch this site as a kid-friendly, or teen, tween or young adult site borders on negligence. There, I said it. The mechanisms are simply NOT in place to protect children from the porn, the abusive and the pedophiles on Prove me wrong.

I have not only discouraged my children, I have educated them about Myspace and then promptly blocked them using Myspace, utilizing strong, encrypted parental blocking software. So much for trust…

Not only are there wayward porn and problem areas, the Wild Wild West JavaScript and Flash that could tear holes in about anyone’s secure computer is begging to destroy one’s vulnerable computer. It’s just not an option for our family, we have learned to live without it.

  • One has to be careful posting photos or they become in the public domain – for all to see. There are countless pictures of parent’s children, gleefully posted on Myspace – much to my horror, I could not see a public display of my kids as, well, responsible.
  • Privacy feature still allows you to be found by strangers and the main photo is shown.
  • Minors are everywhere, shhh! They keep it a secret and MySpace does very little in the way of verification.
  • Having said that, sex offenders appear to be easier to find, if news shows are to be taken seriously.
  • Kids have actually killed themselves over cyber bulling on Myspace…

When I found out early on that my young son had created a Myspace page, I quickly immersed myself in the site, choking on the content and botched codes of templates. I hosed a computer, twice and while I can’t prove it, I am certain it was viral code.

The next day, I wrote Myspace telling them to cancel my son’s “minor” account. They sent me this lengthy, pre-formatted email about me taking a picture of a newspaper in front of my son’s Myspace page in order to cancel my account. LOFL. No. I think I went to their IP upline… It was canceled quickly.

Is it any wonder why Michael Barrett, the Fox Interactive Media (parent co. of Myspace) CRO called it quits after missing his projected revenues focus? Find a way to keep the community cohesive and that starts by limiting the rampage of the have all and be all that is currently Myspace.

Myspace Addiction

I can see where people can become addicted to the “Myspace phenomena”. Most people are introverts and by using a false shield of a computer, they can turn on and off the extrovert within without (for the most part) exposing themselves to ridicule. Excitement builds up with each chance to login and see who is interested, who is visiting or just who is online. Just the mere fact that a community exists is exciting for most people.

We are organizers and the ability to tout ones thoughts, desires and definitions of personalities online, who we are has a satisfying affect.

Am I better because I do not use Myspace? No. Are my children? Absolutely.

In fact, I have found another way to organize, express and become online – this blog. In one sense I criticize and in the other, I am guilty of my own criticisms.

Be careful online and enjoy.

Eyes wide open, I am

— Derek

ATTENTION: Webhosts and ISP’s: What DMCA attorneys don’t want you to know!

When we filed the Federal lawsuit against the big pattern companies and Digital River, we learned some of the tactics of attorneys that spouted Digital Millennium Copyright Act claims, how they twist the letter of the law to their favor.DMCAhaha

One of the little known ways is going to be disclosed here.

The Federal government established a program for WebHosts  to register their designated Copyright Agent with the US Copyright office, per law.  Many do not know about this and therefore, many do not register.  The first thing a lawyer attempts to do when filing a DMCA complaint/lawsuit is to find leverage against the ISP hosting the website.  If it refuses to take down an alleged offending website and it has not registered as its designated copyright agent, they use this as leverage against them.  A sort of, do things my way or you will face charges for this approach…

Now in most communities in the world, using this leverage against someone is considered extortion, blackmail or other interesting terms.  In law, it’s research and helping enforce the laws on the books.

Anyway, the registration process to avoid this type of DMCA takedown complication is fairly simply.  Download the PDF Form and fill it out.  There is a fee to register your webhost/ISP, and it has been steadily increasing in cost each year so I anticipate that the fee will continue to rise.  Registering now won’t protect you from a lawsuit or claim, but it will take one leg out of a lawyer’s claims against you.  The less legs they have to stand on, the less briefs you will have to file.

If I can dig up the letter from the opposing attorney about this matter, I will post it here later.  That way you can clearly see the approach of attorneys with this agenda in mind.

Some of you may not want to register your host – while it currently isn’t an enforced offense, the penalties are not clear, it just gives an opposing counsel a stronger case.  And, they can use this information to go upline to your IP provider and more than likely, kill you IPs…

The EMF Book by Mark A Pinsky (Derek’s Must Reads – 5 stars!)

This book may be hard to find and rightly so.

Most utility companies, anyone who creates a magnetically driven motor or uses electricity in their products, facilities or around their homes or business do not want you to read this book! Try finding it, I challenge you – it really is a must read for those who are concerned about their families and their standard of living.

Emf Book

Having said that I can get on to the content of the book. It is a wonderful book labeled, “What You should know about Electromagnetic fields, Electromagnetic Radiation, and your health”. Sounds boring, doesn’t it, please, read on.

I read the book once and then a second time and I hope to read it again soon. The content opened my eyes to a new, unseen level of concern in this society, aptly coined by Mr. Pinsky as “America’s #1 Environmental Hazard“. The book delves into a great deal of complicated issues and explains them in simple everyday conversation – if you read it, you will take home a treasure of knowledge. I guess the question is, do you really need this book?

  • Do you live by or frequent an airport?
  • Do you use a microwave?
  • Do you ever use a blowdryer or allow it to come close to your children’s head?
  • And electric drill?
  • Pencil sharpener?
  • Do you use a cellphone?
  • Baby monitor?
  • Wireless router in the home or office?
  • What about the computer, a tv or light fixture?
  • Is your bed located by the wires that come into your house?
  • Are there power distribution lines near your home, work or children’s school?
  • One of those big outdoor green power boxes?
  • Do you use a waterbed with a heater?
  • An electric blanket? <<shivers>>

The question should be, how can you afford not to read this book? Am I doing everything I can to protect myself, my family and those around me from this harm?

In my opinion, employers, teachers and parents should be accountable to those they watch over if they have NOT explored this type of material and prepared accordingly. I will even go as far to say, it could classify as abuse – knowing the facts of this book but choosing to ignore it, but that is another argument for another day…stay tuned.

Give the book a read, secure a copy – the investment is minimal and the payoff for you and yours will be quite possibly a longer and healthier life.

**Years ago I made recommendations to friends and family members about the health concerns of aspartame. I spent days accumulating factual, statistical and other information in paper, video and other formats. The presentation was flawless.

Many of them I consider to be very wise, astute and leaders in their respective fields. Yet the same response was reached by a majority.

If it was or is dangerous, our government, regulators and surely the Better Business Bureau would not allow it, right? I just have a hard time believing that it is so… Denial. I am saddened by such responses but as I age and learn more about how we learn and live, sometimes it takes just planting the seed. It is with this quick blog that I hope you find it in your heart and with an open mind, that you embrace this book. There are simple steps you can take to make your life safer, just knowing is half the battle.

Find fault with it, pick it apart and discount it all if you must. But just read it – it’s another one of my must reads.

Family – one’s own flesh and blood…Janice Bessinger Holman

I have an “aunt” who, when her father died, omitted my mother from the obituary (her sister and his daughter), on purpose…. She was bitter because she chose to soley take care of her father in the later years, bitter that others would not help her cash her father’s Social Security checks, I mean, help take care of him.
Amazing how some people can publicize their incompetence and show such a willful disregard for siblings and good common sense.

The funny thing is, she used to be wonderfully awesome. She offered me my first chance to smoke pot (I didn’t inhale of course). What happened, one’s guess?

What’s funnier? Her brother Michael, an MBA and former executive of Chrysler sided with her. There are not many times in one’s life where one can say, “it was on this day we were no longer family”. Fortunately and sometimes unfortunately, I have the uncanny luck in life to experience the peculiar. This is one of those rare times it is unfortunate.

I think her name is Janice Holman, Janice Tubbs or Janice Bessinger, no one really knows at this point, I prefer to call her by her given name, “Ass“.

As a side note, I do not want to detract from the passing of Louis Bessinger, my grandfather.  I enjoyed my years knowing him and while he was distant as my children grew up, I cherished creating a memorial site to his name.  A site that his son and daughter (Janice and Mike, never visited).

We learn from our lives and the histories of others.  I hope in my life people can at least say, I have been a good father, parent, brother and husband.
